2 areas safe from red tide toxin
Balite Bay in Mati, Davao Oriental and the coastal waters of Gigantes Islands in Carles, Iloilo are now free of toxic red tides.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources gave the all clear on shellfish found in the two areas in its latest red tide bulletin.
However, BFAR said the coastal waters of Daram Island in Western Samar, Pilar in Capiz, Dauis in Bohol, Naval in Biliran, Leyte in Leyte province, and the Irong-Irong and Cambatutay bays in Western Samar continue to be positive of the deadly toxin.
BFAR shellfish and alamang from the areas are not safe for human consumption.
But fish, squids, shrimps and crabs are safe to eat if they are fresh and washed thoroughly and internal organs are removed.
