Bidding for P22M cloud seeding contract begins
The Department of Agriculture opened on Monday the bidding for the contract for five cloud seeding operations in El Nino-affected areas in the Visayas and Mindanao.
The DA is targeting cloud seeding in the Negros Island, and Regions 9-12 not later than March 15 on a budget of P22,877,120.
In its invitation to bid sent to civilian aircraft companies and posted on its website, the DA said it has allocated P5.31 million for cloud seeding operations in Negros Island, P5.17 million in Region 9, P3.54 million in Region 10, P3.54 million in Region 11 and P5.31 million in Region 12.
The DA said the cost will cover aviation gas; the wages and daily allowance of two pilots, two mechanics and a salt loader; airport charges; and the cost of the salt, including delivery charge.
The aircraft companies were given up to Feb. 29 to submit their proposals.
The DA is planning 90 hours of cloud seeding operations in Negros Island and Region 12, 80 hours in Region 9, and 60 hours each in Regions 10 and 11.
The drought caused by El Nino, which is expected to scorch the country until end of June, has forced government to induce rain in many provinces especially in the Visayas and Mindanao.
