Genetic improvement of livestock tops BAI’s 5-year strategic plan
The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) has launched a five-year development plan that identifies its 10 priority programs to make the livestock sector a world class and sustainable industry.
The BAI 2016-2020 Strategic Plan and Strategic Map focuses on: animal genetic improvement and conservation; animal health and welfare; animal trade competitiveness enhancement; research and development; ISO quality management; facilities and laboratory equipment modernization; IT modernization; stakeholders engagement; human resource development and fiscal management improvement.
During the launching, the Animal Health Training and Information Center was also inaugurated and the Association of Rabbit Meat Producers (ARaMP), Inc. took their oath.
The ARaMP, Inc. will promote the development of the rabbit industry in the Philippines.
The Swine Genetic Analytical Service Laboratory, a partnership of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development and the Philippine Carabao Center to support the Swine Breeder Farm Accreditation Program, was also launched.
Under the project, the PCAARRD will provide the specialized laboratory equipment for genetic analysis and evaluation while the PCC will handle the expertise to run the genetic testing protocols.
The BAI and ASBAP will provide the room to house the laboratory equipment and will manage the operations of the genetic analytical laboratory, respectively.
