Vice Gov. Savellano pushes more research on gabi species
Aside from advocating organic farming and livestock raising, Ilocos Sur Gov. DV Savellano is also pushing the conduct of more research on several plant species to maximize its use.
In an Instagram post, the public servant, who himself is an organic farmer, cited the Bigaa plant, after
which the province of Vigan was named.
“Bigaa plant after whom Bigan or Vigan was named belongs to the gabi family. There should be more studies to be conducted on the gabi species to maximize their potentials,” he explained.
With research and studies, many plant species have already been tapped for its various medicinal and other uses, the malunggay, acetaba, lagundi and other herbs.
For those who wish to grow their own malunggay trees, Savellano advised that it is best to grow malunggay from seeds as the plants will thrive better in almost any soil type. (ANGEL ONG)
