Price of ice cream could soar this summer due to vanilla shortages caused by struggling harvest
The price of ice cream is set to rocket this summer after a massive rise in the cost of vanilla over the past year, industry figures revealed.
And it could also affect products from cakes and puddings to anything else which uses the popular ingredient to add flavour, particularly to sweet toothed treats.
Over the last 12 months the price of vanilla has rocketed by a staggering 130 per cent to £153 per kilogram mainly because of problems in Madagascar where the plant is harvested.
