Coops, LGUs should create farm schools: Villar
Senator Cynthia Villar said cooperatives should create farm schools to help farmers increase productivity.
The Philippine Information Agency reported Villar, chairwoman of the Senate committee on agriculture and food, as saying that cooperatives should set up the schools because they have direct contact with farmers and fishermen.
She said the country’s agriculture and fishery sectors are not competitive due to insufficient knowledge on agricultural technology, farm mechanization and financial literacy.
Villar said the cooperatives should coordinate with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for agriculture training programs and scholarship grants.
She said local government units should also establish farm schools for the youth to learn proper farming technology.
