DA resorts to drilling for irrigation water
In the absence of rain and the drying up of water sources, the Department of Agriculture is resorting to drilling for water to be used in farms.
The Philippine Information Agency reported that the DA will give two drilling machines per region to mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon in the provinces.
“Two drilling machines for each region that will be used to drill holes for water pumps,” Alcala was quoted as saying during an open forum of the 9th Farmers and Fishermen’s Day at the Capiz Gym.
Alcala’s announcement was in response to complaints from farmers who said the high-yielding seeds given by the DA gave in due to the absence of rain and lack of water sources near their farms.
