EU training raises value of Guimaras mangoes
European Union Ambassador Franz Jessen said Guimaras mango growers should improve the quality and packaging of mangoes and mango products to raise their value in the global market.
ABS-CBN reported that Jessen visited Guimaras this week to lead an EU team that would give more technical skills training to mango farmers and industry stakeholders.
Jessen is convinced in the great potentials of Guimaras mangoes in the global market.
He said Guimaras should highlight the unique way the mangoes are produced and cultured in order to fetch higher prices.
He added that geographical indication tacks could also be used.
The EU will give the Guimaras mango growers and stakeholders training to improve the quality, packaging and labelling of their products.
This year, the supply of Guimaras mangoes is insufficient for the global market despite the sunny weather which is very favorable for mango growing.
Guimaras has 8,000 hectares planted to mangoes.
