SL Agritech Corp. eyeing to double areas planted with hybrid-rice seeds

Local hybrid seeds producer SL Agritech Corp. (SLAC) said on Monday it is targeting to expand the area planted with its rice varieties to 500,000 hectares in crop year (CY) 2016-2017.

Currently, SLAC senior technical consultant Frisco M. Malabanan said its hybrid-rice seeds are planted in 250,000 hectares. This represents 62.5 percent of the 400,000 hectares devoted to hybrid rice, according to Malabanan.

“We aim to maintain the average yield of our hybrid-rice seeds at 8 metric tons to 10 MT,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the SLAC’s SL-8H Grand Harvest Festival held on Monday in Nueva Ecija.
