Alcala urges farmers to support Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center
Agriculture secretary Proceso Alcala urged farmers in the Cordilleras to support the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center.
At the Highland Vegetable Investment Forum cum Trade Fair, Alcala said the trading center will only improve the existing farm and trading systems of the region and help farmers increase their earnings.
Alcala also said the new system that will be implemented does not mean taking out middlemen but only making sure that their gains are just right.
He added that the new system to be implemented is not against the middlemen.
“Hindi natin sila (middlemen) aalisin ngunit dapat makinabang sila ng tama lang,” Alcala said.
The Benguet Agri Pinoy Trading Center stands on a four-hectare lot and is envisioned to be a modern trading center to showcase the agricultural products in the region.
With the new trading center, Alcala said farmers will gain better market access and will not be taken advantage of.
“We believe that farmers can stand on their own at the proper time,” Alcala said. (Eileen A. Mencias)
