Alliance Select Foods International eyes UK market

Alliance Select Foods International, a listed tuna canner and exporter, is looking to expand its market in the United Kingdom.

In a statement, Alliance Select Foods International said it is hoping to take advantage of the GSP + status of the Philippines in the European Union.

“The GSP + status granted to the Philippines makes it possible for Alliance Select to significantly expand its existing market in the EU,” the company said.

The GSP + status of the Philippines means that Alliance Select Foods International can bring its tuna products in EU member states at zero-percent duty. With lower tariffs, Alliance Select Foods International can sell its products at lower prices and attract more buyers.

“The UK is one of the leading destinations of processed tuna in the EU and Alliance Select is well-positioned to meet that demand,” Alliance Select Foods International president Raymond See said in a statement.

The company said the EU is the second biggest market for tuna and that the UK is among the five biggest importers of the product in the EU.

Citing data from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the company said the Philippines exported a total of 17,324 metric tons of fish products to the EU worth P2.4 billion. (Eileen A. Mencias)
