Cebu livestock insured for La Nina
The Cebu provincial government has expanded its livestock insurance program and other measures in preparation for the La Nina.
Cebu, in its website, said farmers can now enroll up to 10 domestic animals for insurance instead of one, in case of diseases and accidents.
Cebu Provincial Veterinary Officer Mary Rose Vincoy said animal shelters will be needed for the cold and wet season.
Vincoy also said the PVO will acquire another batch of veterinary logistics on top of the P2.5 million vitamins and feeds during the El Nino season.
Damage to livestock in Cebu due to El Nino was estimated at P7.4 million.
The provincial government will also conduct an information and education campaign, expand forage and pasture areas, and hold veterinary outreach programs.
