Cloud seeding brings hope to sugarcane farmers

Rains fell on Negros Occidental to the delight of sugarcane farmers after the Department of Agriculture began cloud seeding operations Sunday.

The Philippine News Agency reported that light rains were felt in Cadiz City and Bago City while heavy rains were experienced in La Carlota City.

The Sugar Regulatory Authority reported that losses for sugarcane and molasses in the province have reached P182 million as of April 26.
The damage affected 9,800 hectares and 9,799 farmers.

Damage to rice, corn, other crops and tilapia by the dry spell and rat infestation were estimated at P221.88 million.

The DA and the SRA have allocated funds for cloud seeding for the sugarcane farmers.
