Cocolisap spread in Zambo City on tight watch
The cocolisap is spreading in coconut trees in some barangays in Zamboanga City and the Philippine Coconut Authority is monitoring the infestation.
The Philippine Information Agency, quoting PCA’s Efren Carba, reported that cocolisap was sighted in two barangays in Zamboanga City.
It is believed that the cocolisap has been in the area for three months and could have spread about 1.2 kilometers from the area of sighting.
Initial surveillance revealed that 13 coconut trees are infected in Brgy. Dulian Upper Bungiao and seven trees in Brgy. Latuan.
Carba said biological control agents have been released in the affected trees and the situation is being monitored.
The PCA is verifying if it is the same invasive insect that has plagued Basilan province.
