DA gives recognition to “Modern Day Heroes”
In celebration of Farmers’ and Fisherfolks’ month, the Department of Agriculture presented awards to four notable fisher and farmers for their remarkable contribution to local agriculture on May 23, 2016.
Awards were given to individuals who contributed to the development of different sectors of agriculture, said in a publication in the DA website. Fidel Josue was recognized for his works on fisheries, Leon Bonilla for the corn sector, Jerry Villanada for rice and Demetrio de Ocampo for high value crops.
DA Undersecretary for Operations Emerson Palad, Finance Assistant Secretary Ophelia Agawin, and Region IV-B Executive Director Cipriano Santiago conferred the recognition of the four awardees.
Through a message read by Usec Palad, Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala said that these people are the “true heroes” of the country because of the constant hard work they show to provide food on the tables of the Filipino people.
By virtue of Proclamation No. 33 authorized by President Corazon C. Aquino in 1989, Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month is celebrated annually every May, to give recognition and honor to the people of agriculture sector.
