Farmers get irrigation, seeds in Iloilo and Cebu
The town of Dingle, Iloilo could not be reached by the services of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
Where the NIA failed, the Korea Program for International Agriculture (KOPIA) provided.
The Philippine Information Authority reported that rice farmers in three barangays of Dingle benefited from the P986,575 worth of KOPIA-assisted water pump irrigation project.
The project irrigated 50 hectares of agricultural lands.
In nearby Cebu, the provincial government gave farmers P5.6 million in planting materials from its quick response fund.
The Cebu government said the materials, composed of vegetable seeds and plant suckers, will be available in the first cropping season or between late May and early June. Insectides have also been readied.
The regional office of the Department of Agriculture has committed to distribute corn seeds starting this month.
