Guimaras readies for Manggahan Festival
Guimaras province is eyeing sales of more than P10 million and more tourist arrivals when it celebrates its Manggahan Festival on May 11-22.
The festival promotes the province as the producer of the sweetest mango in the world and as a tourist destination.
Guimaras mangoes are certified pest-free by the US Department of Agriculture and reportedly served at the White House and Buckingham Palace. Around 50,000 mango trees grow all over the island province.
Aside from mangoes, a trade fair will sell aquaculture products, souvenir items, cut flowers and organic vegetables during the festival.
Last year’s sales reached P10 million.
Guimaras, which boasts of white sand beaches, calm seas and virgin forests, has tourism, fruit processing, coconut processing, fish farming, handicrafts making, mining, quarrying and lime products as its major industries.
