Manny Piñol ready to march to Duterte’s orders
Incoming Agriculture Secretary, Gov. Manny Piñol is ready to buckle down to work to institute reforms in the agriculture sector after receiving marching orders from presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte that available, and affordable food should be the primary thrust of the Department of Agriculture and that corruption in the agency must be stopped at all cost.
In his Facebook page, Piñol shared that while he is honored by Duterte’s confidence in his ability to implement reforms, it is a gargantuan task to provide food on the table of the 105 million Filipinos and this would entail a great amount of sacrifice on his part to make the vision into a reality.
“There will be sacrifices to be made like leaving my farm again to the care of people who have worked with me for so long and not seeing my chicken and plants everyday.
The thought, however, that I will be able to implement PresidenteRody’s vision in agriculture and food security is worth all the sacrifices.
Work starts today with a meeting with the representatives of the United Nations World Food Program.
After this, I will silently move around the country to get the feel of the situation so that on Day One, the Change that PresidenteRody promised with start,” he posted.
In an earlier post, Piñol lamented early criticisms of his impending appointment and clarified that he did not lobby for the position. He also assured Filipinos that while he is human, like the rest, he will do his best to meet the President’s expectations since he recognizes that is he fails, so will the President’s vision.
