Irrigation gets biggest gov’t subsidy
The National Irrigation Authority (NIA) got the lion’s share of the P8.24-billion subsidy that government released to government-owned and controlled corporations as of end-March.
Data from the Bureau of Treasury showed that NIA got P2.06 billion out of the total government subsidies.
The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority got the next highest subsidies with P1.47 billion each.
In March alone, GOCCs received P3.89 billion in subsidies with NIA getting the bulk of P1.66 billion.
Government has been intensifying cloud-seeding operations since March due to the searing heat that has been drying up farm lands.
