Pepsi strengthens local Cheetos, Lay’s production
Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc. is stepping up the local production of its snack business under the brand names Cheetos and Lay’s.
The Food and Drug Administration has approved five of its products in the past three months: Cheetos Crunch Chips Snack, barbecue flavour; Lay’s Stax potato chips, sour cream & onion; Lay’s Stax potato chips, original flavour; Lay’s Stax potato crisps, cheese; and Lay’s Kyushu Seaweed flavour potato chips.
Except for Lay’s Kyushu Seaweed flavour potato chips that were registered under Benby Enterprises Inc., the Cheetos and Lay’s Stax products were registered under Pepsi-Cola Far East Trade Development Inc. as low risk food products.
Locally manufactured Cheetos and Lay’s products have started appearing in grocery shelves this year.
Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines started operations of its local snacks business in the fourth quarter of 2015 in Cabuyao. Sales amounted to only P4 million in the fourth quarter of the year. In the first quarter of this year, its snacks business has generated P27 million. (By: Eileen A. Mencias)
