Rainy season officialy begin – PAGASA
Summer is officially over, as PAGASA reported that rainy season has commenced.
PAGASA said in a statement on Tuesday that “Widespread rainfall during the past few days, suggest new development in the climate system…These prominent changes suggest a strong manifestation of the shift from dry season to wet season,”
Potential break in rain events are likely to occur within the next few days, the statement said.
PAGASA reported that “The onset of the rainy season associated with the southwest monsoon (locally known as habagat) is now in progress. Cloudy skies with scattered rains particularly in the afternoon are anticipated to continue in [days] ahead,”
Meanwhile, the El Niño phenomenon, is expected to end within the month of July and La Niña will take place in the latter part of 2016, PAGASA said.
This transition from dry to wet season would hopefully be of help to farmers stricken by drought-driving El Nino. The Department of Agriculture revealed that the damage caused by the El Nino phenomenon has already reached P7.013 billion for the period January to May 3, 2016.
