Red tide in Irong-Irong Bay

Irong-Irong Bay in Western Samar is positive of red tide toxins, the Philippine Information Agency reported.

Juan Albaladejo, Eastern Visayas regional director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), said in a local advisory that the lab exam conducted by the Provincial Marine Biotoxin Laboratory in Catbalogan showed that seawater samples collected along the bay tested positive of red tide toxins.

Because of this, Albaladejo said all types of shellfish in the area are not safe for human consumption.
