2 Bataan farmers stunned by Piñol’s quick response
Rene Santos and Enrique Antonio, farmers from Hermosa, Bataan, traveled for four hours on July 26 to follow up their association’s request for shallow tube wells that was submitted to the agriculture department in 2014. The department only provided them with two shallow tube wells but their organization, the Hermosa Bataan Eagle Farmers Association, needed 15.
They got a pleasant surprise when they Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol approved the request for the 15 shallow tube wells and even threw in a cultivator as soon as they raised the topic.
“We did not expect Secretary Piñol to be such a fast worker but he is really quick to the draw,” the farmers said.
The farmers had a 10-minute meeting with Piñol who immediately approved the release of the shallow tube wells and the cultivator.
The farmers said they tried requesting the department for the request again because the farmers in their association needed it. They did not expect the request to be approved and they didn’t expect it to be approved that fast.
Piñol has vowed to fast track transactions in the department, especially for projects that will directly benefit farmers.
The shallow tube wells will benefit more than 100 members of the HBEFA and will ensure their water supply and food production.
