Aklanon farmers have a long wait
Some 9,900 farmers in Aklan have to wait three years before the P655.2-million Aklan River Irrigation Improvement could bring water to 4,000 hectares of agricultural lands year-round.
The National Irrigation Administration-Aklan was quoted by the Philippine Information Agency as saying that the project is due for completion within three years.
It said the irrigation facility involves two dam site constructions in Malinao and Banga towns.
The Aklan River is the largest and longest river in the province with primary waterways, traversing 1,761 kilometers through seven towns.
The project’s second phase, which involved P200-million for the construction of the 220-meter dam sites, which was bidded out last July 5.
