Banana export groups say not aware of complaints over Davao quarantine ‘fees’
DAVAO CITY — Small, medium and large-scale banana exporters said they are not aware of illegal fees allegedly being collected by the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI)-Quarantine Service staff stationed at the Sasa Port here.
“So far I have not received complaints from our members,” Stephen A. Antig, executive director of the Philippine Banana Growers and Exporters Association (PBGEA) told BusinessWorld.
PBGEA, with 27 member-companies operating in 15 provinces in Mindanao, serves as the institutional support arm of some of the biggest players in the banana industry, including Dole-Stanfilco, Sumifru and Del Monte Fresh Produce, Inc.
