Brie and Camembert prices fall with entry of new player
There’s nothing like a new player in the market to shake prices down.
Emborg, known mainly as a European dairy producer, recently introduced its own soft cheeses in the local market.
Emborg’s Brie and Camembert started appearing in supermarket shelves in Metro Manila three to four weeks ago with an introductory price of P150.
Milkana, which also just started introducing its Brie and Camembert, snipped its prices by some P5 to P177 a pack.
The French-made Gerard cut its prices on Brie and Camembert cheeses by P40 to P175 a pack. President, a brand which has been around longer in local supermarket shelves, seem to have been threatened as it slashed its prices by P73 with its Brie and Camembert retailing at P169 a pack for now.
Two brands, Castello and Viking, appear to be standing their ground and are not moving their prices.
With several brands to choose from and the price war they are waging, don’t you just love a free market?
