Business groups call for implementation of agri projects in NIR
Vegetable and rice farming is about to strengthen connection between the two Negros regions through a farming project.
Business groups in Negros Island Region are calling for agricultural projects that will incorporate vegetable and rice farming among local government units in the two Negros provinces, said Sun Star Bacolod in a report.
The Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) and Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), which are part of the Negros Island Regional Development Council (NIRDC), have established the idea of generating the San Carlos-Vallehermoso-Canlaon Veggie and Rice Farms Project.
The project was already presented and endorsed to NIRDC during its third meeting that took place in Kabankalan City on Wednesday through the Economic Development Committee (EDC), Sun Star reported.
The presentation said that the project includes production system, the areas, irrigation system, road network, marketing through trading post, agricultural practices, post-harvest facilities, funding and transport gear.
It is intended to develop the quality of produce and efficiency of farms, increase production areas, source inside region and outside region markets, upturn the income of farmers, and as a comeback to increasing food prices, it added.
The regional governor for Western Visayas and Negros Occidental of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Nr. Fraklin Carbon, who represented the MBBCI during the Council’s meeting, said the project also has provision for access to market, the report said.
“This is a form of further improving inter-connectivity between the two provinces in the island,” said Carbon, adding that with the idea drafted by the business sector, it is now up to the DA and the three LGUs to implement it.
