Chicken in banana leaves craze spreads in Panay island
Madalag town in Aklan will hold its “Tinuom Festival” on July 29, where food is wrapped in banana leaves and cooked over hot coals.
The Philippine Information Agency said the Tinuom Festival aims to attract tourists and interest in the town by highlighting the old practice of wrapping food in banana leaves and cooking them over live coals.
A similar festival is held in the 17 towns of Iloilo, which is the adjacent province to Aklan.
The word “tinuom” originally pertains to cooking native chicken in banana leaves with salt, pepper, onion, lemongrass and tomatoes.
