DA to intensify technology training, financing, and marketing assistance
Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol today said the department will be intensifying efforts on technology training, financing, and marketing assistance to make sure the country will have enough food while ensuring that farmers earn a decent income.
According to Piñol, both he and President Rodrigo Duterte were farm boys which is exactly why he is confident that under the new administration, “things will change for the Filipino farmers and fishermen.”
“Programs to be implemented by the Department of Agriculture under my stewardship will be based on what I clearly saw as the problems confronting productivity and profitability in these two areas,” he said. “I will initiate a relentless effort to ensure that there will be enough rice for the Filipinos while at the same time assuring the rice farmers of a decent income for their hardships.”
He said the department will embark on a program that will increase the production of meat, poultry, and dairy products to supply local demand while maintaining focus on high value products such as coconut, cacao, and others for the export market.
The technology training, financing, and marketing assistance are geared towards improving the productivity of farmers and fisher folk.
“Yesterday’s oath taking signalled a new day for the Filipino farmers and fishermen—a day of hope. My wish is for farming and fishing will be profitable so that young boys like me no longer need to leave the farms and the seas to look for jobs in the big city,” Piñol said.
