Find out the farm and fishing reforms in Duterte’s SONA
Agriculture and food were on top of President Duterte’s mind in his first State of the Nation Address which ran for one hour and a half.
In his SONA, Duterte said government will conduct a nationwide soil analysis to determine the areas most suitable for rice farming and to optimize production.
He said soil which is found to be poor will be rehabilitated and fertilized.
Duterte also said fisheries laws will be strictly enforced and aquaculture development.
He said fish cages will no longer be set up in the bodies of water, but on their banks.
He also ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development to provide rice subsidies to the poorest Filipino families every month.
In addition, the President said the construction of access roads must be fast-tracked.
