GenSan sends SOS to repel invasion of armyworms
The city government of General Santos is asking for help in containing the spread of armyworms that have infested around 100 hectares of farmlands in the city.
The Philippine News Agency reported that City Agriculture chief Merlinda Donasco said has a sought assistance from the Department of Agriculture in Region 12 additional pesticides and technical interventions.
Donasco was reported to have dispatched technical personnel to six farming barangays to prevent the armyworms from spreading in the areas.
She said farmers have been given pesticides and taught pest control.
The armyworms appeared several weeks ago in corn areas, but it was expected because of the shift in the weather from dry to rainy.
