How Benguet is transforming the lives of arrested users through agri
What to do with all these rampant chongke plantations and hundreds of arrested drug users? Benguet has a nice solution to that.
Amidst rampant killings of suspected people linked to drugs, the rampant surrender of users and Duterte administration’s ‘war on drugs’, Benguet is finding ways to help arrested users and drug pushers get back on their feet.
Those who voluntarily surrendered are being given opportunities and livelihood assistance by the local government unit in Benguet, Manila Times reported.
Gov. Crescencio Pacalso said in the report that he has asked the province’s Social Welfare and Development to source funding allocation for the purpose.
The LGU will also seek help and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture on the growth and expansion of cacao plantations as the users and pushers’ possible livelihood source.
Areas in Bakun and Kibungan towns where marijuana plantations are widespread may be rehabilitated into cacao and coffee for vast farm production that could be established as their One-Town-One-Product.
The report said that a total of 130 have been turned in, in the wake of the strengthened crackdown on illegal drugs and more are anticipated to come out in the next days
