Palafox proposes penthouse farms
Architecture firm Palafox and Associates has proposed that the top floors of buildings and houses in Metro Manila and other emerging metropolises be used as urban farms, and that such endeavors be given incentives by government.
Sunstar reported that the proposal is part of the firm’s suggestions to the Duterte administration to improve transport systems and push for spatial development and vertical urbanism, among others.
“lmagine Metro Manila adapting the Green Agenda of New York; it is for certain that there will be healthier locally grown food choices available in the area. Open spaces and parks could also be used as urban farms, instead of selling these ‘lungs of the city’ to private developers,” Palafox was quoted as saying.
The firm said aside from Metro Manila, metropolises such as Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Clark, Subic and Cagayan De Oro could do with such plans to avoid congestion and ensure environment-friendly living.
Japan and France have also been turning top floors of buildings into farms, the produce of which are served to employees.
