Pangilinan is new head of Senate agriculture committee
Sen. Francis Pangilinan, former presidential assistant on food security and agricultural modernization, is the new chairman of the Senate committee on agriculture and food.
Pangilinan replaced Sen. Cynthia Villar, who is now committee vice chair.
Pangilinan, who also owns an organic farm, said his new position would allow him to pursue his advocacy to raise the income of Filipino farmers and fishermen.
He said he will start his advocacy by pushing for the Sagip Saka bill, which seeks to connect farmers directly to big-time food buyers, including the government and fast food giants.
The other members of the Senate agriculture and food committee are Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Zubiri, Richard Gordon, Bam Aquino, Loren Legarda, Leila de Lima, Grace Poe, Francis Escudero, and Antonio Trillanes IV.
