Piñol cancels Indonesia trip to recuperate from pneumonia
Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol has cancelled a trip to Indonesia this week after he was downed by pneumonia last weekend.
In his FB post, Piñol said he has not posted on his FB page for four days because of a bout with pneumonia. He was resting in his Kidapawan farm after last week’s gruelling journey to Bicol, Samar, and Leyte but his daughters, one is a doctor and the other is reviewing for her medical board exams, insisted that he go to Davao City for a medical check up. The X-Ray and the blood test showed he had pneumonia but he wouldn’t miss the State of the Nation Address for anything.
“The Indonesian trip was something I could assign to two Undersecretaries – Segfredo Serrano and Eduardo Gongona – but I told the doctors I could not miss the SONA,” Piñol said. “I did not want to miss an historic event even if I had to have to wear an IV tube.”
He didn’t have to as the clips from the SONA showed.
The doctors let Piñol attend the SONA provided he takes the meds for his condition. By Tuesday night, he said he felt better except for the nasal drip that was irritating his throat.
“Following the doctors’ advice (and the nagging of my two doctor daughters), I had to cancel some of my engagements this week, among them the trip to Indonesia. I have to give this old body a rest,” he said.
