Piñol gives go signal for Jalaur River project
It’s a go for this irrigation project in Iloilo!
DA Secretary Manny Piñol recently gave his approval for the implementation of the P11.2-billion Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project II (JRMP), said Senator Franklin Drilon, Sun Star reported.
Drilon said in an interview that his support is integral for the smooth implementation of the decades-old project assigned by Republic Act 2651 in 1960.
Drilon said the DA Secretary gave a guarantee to him that the project will definitely push through. Drilon has been involved in the realization of the project subsidized by the Korean government.
The project aims to provide adequate irrigation water to more than 32,000 hectares of farm land and would be of great help to more than 25,000 farmers in Iloilo.
Apart from the irrigation, the other components of the projects consist of potable water supply, energy power of some 6 megawatts and job generation of about 17,000.
With Piñol’s full support to the project, former Senate President said he is hoping that the National Irrigation Administration and other involved agencies can now finally proceed to the smooth implementation of the irrigation project.
Drilon also added he fully backs Pinol’s plan on free irrigation for farmers.
