Piñol hikes proposed DA budget to P 71-B for 2017
“The new budget request I submitted to Malacanang, to the DBM (Department of Budget and Management) for 2017 is no longer P 46 billion, it’s P 71 billion because that already includes the first tranche of the three-year rice program,” said Pinol in a press conference.
He noted that the government has pushed back its rice self-sufficiency target due to constraints in the availability of funds needed to increase productivity and areas dedicated to palay.
As such, Pinol said the DBM has urged them to defer full implementation of the program by next year, stressing that any realignment of funds during this time would be subject to scrutiny.
