Piñol kicks off ‘Biyaheng Bukid’ in Mindoro
The Department of Agriculture turned over vital equipment to farmers and fishermen in Mindoro last week.
Mindoro was among the provinces visited by Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol in his “Biyaheng Bukid” tour before formally assuming office.
“The people of the large and rich island of Mindoro on July 8 were the first witnesses to how fast President Rody Duterte touches the lives of the neglected and the forgotten,” Piñol said. “During my first visit, campaign volunteers for President Duterte brought me to remote areas of the island where I met farmers and fisherfolk who had long been waiting for government to touch their lives.”
The DA turned over 10 water pumps complete with tubes and additional budget for drilling wells in Barangay Yawyawi in Occidental Mindoro.
The DA also turned over 20 units of motorized fishing boats with fishing gears. Each boat was co-owned by two families who will have to work as a team. Piñol said five more fishing boats will be given to 10 families in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro.
In Bansud, the DA provided dairy farmers with 10 heads of pregnant buffaloes in response to their request for more milking animals.
Tractors were also distributed to rice farmers.
“As the help from government were distributed, I saw smiles and even teary eyes among the farmers.I asked myself how many more poor farmers and fisherfolk are still out there waiting for the day when President Duterte would be able to touch their lives,” Piñol said. “To them, here is my message: Have no fear, Duterte is here!”
