Piñol saves on costs, holds oath taking ceremony on Facebook Live
Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol took to technology to reach his new family at the Department of Agriculture’s turnover ceremonies.
In keeping with the simplicity and austerity of President Rodrigo Duterte’s oath taking, Piñol followed suit and conducted a similarly austere turnover by asking the department’s regional directors to not journey to Quezon City for the ceremony.
Piñol’s hashtag is changeishere.
“In keeping with President Duterte’s call for austerity, I also advised the regional officials of the Department of Agriculture not to come to the main office in Quezon City for the turn-over ceremonies last Friday,” he said. “Instead, with the help of the technical team of the DA, the turn-over between me and outgoing Secretary Proceso Alcala was beamed to the regional office through Facebook.”
“I can just imagine how much money was saved on the first day of the Duterte Presidency alone,” he added.
Piñol said President Duterte’s call for simplicity and austerity is not a mere press release but essentially the policy of the new administration.
“President Duterte repeated his instructions to his Secretaries to be as humble as possible. The use of the No. 6 Plate for our official vehicles is discouraged and we are advised to take the Economy Class when travelling by plane,” Piñol said.
