Piñol “stepped out of bounds” for sacking DA officials
Recently, DA chief Emmanuel Piñol made it to the headlines following his decision to sack several DA officials involved in alleged corruption.
However, despite his good intention to get rid of corrupt officials, Piñol is once again on the headline for not observing due process.
Froy Alba wrote for Inquirer, and called this act ‘An injustice to honest, dedicated agri officials’.
“However, it seems that he stepped out of bounds when he did this without observing due process.
By arbitrarily getting rid of career officials who had served the agency with competency and a high sense of honesty and professionalism, he not only sowed fear but also caused demoralization in the rank and file of the Department of Agriculture.”, Alba said in a column for Inquirer.
He said that it’s not fair to label the DA as an agency of corrupt individuals.
Corruption may be widespread at the national level, but certainly this cannot be said of all regional offices, or just any director for that matter, he said.
He cited Director Leo P. Cañeda of Region 8, who, according to him, “whose only sin perhaps is his being intelligent and articulate”.
“He inspired us to provide honest, dedicated service to our farmers in the best way we could even with the scantiest resources provided us.”, Alba shared.
