PSA, to implement monthly farm prices survey

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will be conducting a monthly farm prices survey (FPS) to collect information that can be utilized to inform policymakers on what interventions and programs are necessary for the growth of the agriculture sector, said Manila Times in a report.

National statistician and civil registrar general Lisa Grace Bersales said that the FPS, headed by the PSA’s Price Statistics Division, will be conducted on a monthly basis and will cover 81 provinces in the country.

Bersales also added that PSA has allocated P14.36 million for implementation of the said surveys.

The FPS, through the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), was cleared for implementation in June this year. SSRCS is a mechanism being conducted by the PSA in accordance with Rule 28 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10625.

The survey aims to minimalize the burden placed upon respondents; ensure sound design for data collection; reduce avoidable duplication of statistical data collection; effect economy in statistical data collection; and attain better coordination of government statistical programs.

“In line with this, concerned owners, managers, employees, or any persons knowledgeable on the operations of their farms are enjoined to respond to the survey to pursue a more effective system of generating and processing price information of agricultural commodities,” Bersales said in the report.
