Retrenched tuna workers sail on their own boats
The 148 displaced workers of tuna producer Citra Mina and the fishing crew that it used to commission launched over the weekend in General Santos City three tuna hardline fishing boats constructed using a P2.58-million livelihood grant from the labor department.
The Philippine News Agency reported that the three mother boats were aptly named F/B Queen Rosalinda, F/B Queen Rebecca and F/B Queen Ofelia as a tribute to former labor secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, Labor Undersecretary Rebecca Chato and former DOLE-12 director Ofelia Domingo, who facilitated the release of the grant.
The project will give jobs to the retrenched workers while providing for their needs.
Their case is under mediation by the regional labor office.
