Stop right now! Rackets in the DA should come to an end
Corruption in the DA? It’s about time for these illicit “rackets” to stop – right now (thank you very much!)
The “rackets” or misuse of funds for suspicious projects in the DA should come to an end, Jarius Bondoc said in his column for the Philippine Star.
He narrated how Pnoy’s Liberal Party-mate Sec. Proceso Alcala and subalterns get away with their mischievous activities while in position.
“Not only in rice did Alcala’s boys plunder. His very appointees to bolster the local produce of vegetables, spices, and meat weakened the domestic supply.
They recycled lapsed import permits for cartels to use in bringing in onion, garlic, ginger, and dirty chicken and pork from China”, he added.
He said that Alcala and others involved were never penalized for these activities. Each time they face the press, he said that Alcala would only shuffle his boys for new posts which “did more good for him, and harm to farmers and consumers”.
He also mentioned rackets in other agencies.
“The irrigation authority purchased – for huge kickbacks – overpriced backhoes, bulldozers, and harvesters. The fertilizer and pesticides managers controlled the supply for personal profit.
The coconut counterparts did the same with the special product. There also were rackets in making farm-to-market roads and refrigeration plants. In all they only brought misery to the rural folk and city consumers” he said.
Bondoc expressed his high hopes for the new administration, armed with a promise of a more fruitful agriculture sector that aims to “protect consumers against profiteers.”
