‘Ube’ is in fashion: Favorite Pinoy purple yam is on GQ
Restaurateur Margarita Fores today tweeted a GQ.com article that focuses on the ube, also known as purple yam to some.
GQ.com credits the Ube’s new found fame to the Golden Cristal Donut from Manila Social Club. Its donut batter is made from ube mousse, Cristal champagne which it covers with gold flakes when done and costs $1,000 a dozen.
They also have the standard ube donuts. They make only 40 dozen of them on Fridays. It’s always sold out and has a three-week waiting time.
