Where else could you put fish and meat?
Vendors of the New Mandaue Public Market and citizens of Mandaue City are having trouble finding containers for their fish and meat following the strict enforcement of the City’s Plastic Bag Prohibition Ordinance this week.
Sunstar reported that some wet market customers and vendors want an exemption from the ban for fish and meat products.
A fish vendor said she asked her customers to bring along a bucket when buying fish.
Another fish vendor said sacks could be a replacement but they are expensive.
There was also a suggestion to allow the use of plastic for fish provided that only one instead of two bags be used to wrap the fish.
A businessman said biodegrable plastics are now being used and that people should just be disciplined for more careful use of plastic so as to prevent flooding in the city.
A fine of P500 for each violation of the plastics ban, or face five days’ imprisonment, await violators.
