You can’t go wrong with ‘virgin’ food: DTI

Director Senen Perlada of the trade department’s Export Marketing Bureau advised coconut producers to maintain their products as close to their natural form in order to gain the highest price in the export market.

Perlada was quoted by Businessworld as saying: “The more organic the product, the better price it will get in the market.”

He said “Western people are now going loco over coco, (especially with) VCO (virgin coconut oil),” but the value of VCO depreciates when it undergoes excessive processing.

He said the same holds true with coconut water.

“You can have better prices because it is natural and nothing could be better than having it fresh, that is where the value is because it preserves the freshness and taste of the natural product,” he added.
