Decline in farm output eases in Q2
The decline in farm output eased in the second quarter this year to 2.34 percent, almost half of the 4.53 percent contraction registered in the January-March period, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.
PSA attributed the slowdown in decline in agricultural productivity to the end of the long drought that affected the first half farm output.
The crops subsector, which accounted for 48.31 percent of total agricultural output, dropped 4.9 percent as production of palay and corn registered reductions of 6.1 percent and 10 percent, respectively.
The livestock subsector, grew 6.56 percent while poultry improved 1.25 percent and fisheries, dropped by 5.9 percent.
The PSA reported though that farmers commanded better crop prices with an average of 3.74 percent increase.
