BFAR-Davao region to seize undersized fish
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in the Davao region will confiscate undersized fish sold in markets and in fish landings in the region to persuade the public not to catch or buy fish during the closed season
Sunstar, quoting BFAR regional director Fatma Idris, reported that the program, called Task Force Market Denial, also seeks to preserve the area’s aquatic resources.
Idris said the fisher folk do not understand the reason for a closed season.
She said consumers must also be made to understand that buying undersized fish does not mean saving money and saving the fish.
She said there will be no penalties. Seized fish will be donated to the public.
