Boats given to Davao’s marginalized sector
The Department of Agriculture distributed P22.1 million worth of fiberglass fishing boats, fishing gears and post-harvest equipment at the Davao Fish Port Complex in Toril, Davao City as part of its commitment to give 200,000 boats by year end.
Sunstar, quoting Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, reported that the beneficiaries are geo-tagged so that the DA could visit them after three years to see it the intervention was helpful.
“But this is beyond just the distribution, our new paradigm in all our government services, it not just distribution per se, we also would want to look into whether these interventions will really be able to lift their economic and social condition,” Piñol was quoted as saying.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) distributed 300 motorized fiberglass boats with fishing gear (5.5hp engine) to the marginalized people of Davao and those affected by the closed season in the Davao Gulf.
Each banca will be shared by two families.
