DA and DENR get “married in heaven”
DA and DENR, to work together? Sounds like a good start!
The DA and the DENR launched a program Friday, August 4, during the second day of the Mindanao Environment Summit held at the Ritz Hotel, Obrero, Davao City, Sun Star reported.
The program to be spearheaded by the two departments aims to implement environmental protection and agricultural sustainability. The program is called the “Marriage Made in Heaven.”
“Agriculture without environment is a fruitless endeavor,” DA chief Manny Piñol said in his opening statement during the environmental seminar. He further highlighted the significance of protection of environment to agriculture and their aspiration to produce affordable and enough food for this country, Sun Star said.
Piñol stressed that they are aiming for two key things: achieve food sufficiency and agricultural sustainability.
With the partnership with DENR, the Philippine government will create a new mindset for Philippine Agriculture. The platform will dampen big irrigation projects, only small ones, implement a nationwide soil analysis and conduct effective soil rehabilitation and fertilization schemes.
